Amplifying the bearded voice in cybersecurity.
For too long, the follicularly gifted have gone unrecognized in our industry. BeardSEC is the community, advocacy, and mentorship network built to change that — one whisker at a time.
Every voice matters. Even the muffled ones.
The cybersecurity industry has made real strides in recognizing the many communities that make it strong. We celebrate that. We simply noticed one group whose lived experience — of soup, of winter, of the airport security pat-down — had gone entirely undocumented.
BeardSEC exists to give bearded professionals a seat at the table, a comb in the drawer, and a community that gets it. We are not a company. We are a movement you can grow into.
What we stand for
Six commitments that guide the network. Each one earned through years of being asked to hold the elevator with our hands full.
Advocacy
Championing beard-inclusive policy: dress-code reform, respirator-fit-test alternatives, and the right to a non-judgmental camera angle on video calls.
Mentorship
Pairing seasoned graybeards with those still filling in the cheeks. Guidance on careers, patience on growth, and honest feedback on patchiness.
Community
A global Discord, regional meetups, and a safe space to admit you got soup in it again. Belonging, for people who've been mistaken for one another at conferences.
Research
Rigorous study of the bearded experience in tech: the great "sunglasses indoors" debate, thermal comfort in server rooms, and lanyard-tangle incident rates.
Grooming Standards
Vendor-neutral guidance on oils, balms, and combs. No sponsorships, no kickbacks — just peer-reviewed recommendations from people who've tried everything.
Allyship
Because you don't need a beard to support one. Clean-shaven allies are welcome, valued, and gently encouraged to reconsider on their own timeline.
The path to the patch
Membership is free, lifelong, and self-certified — because gatekeeping is the opposite of what we're about. Here's how the journey typically unfolds.
Declare Intent
Put down the razor and tell us you're in. No proof required — we operate on the honor system and a shared understanding of itch.
Find Your Chapter
Connect with your local or virtual chapter. Introduce yourself, share your journey, and receive your welcome comb.
Contribute
Mentor a newcomer, host a meetup, or submit to our research digest. Give back at whatever length you've achieved.
Earn Your Stripes
Reach graybeard status and join the council of elders — the ones we consult before any major decision, and any big trim.
Wherever there's stubble, there's a chapter.
From basements to conference hallway tracks, BeardSEC chapters gather locally and online. Every one is member-run, low-key, and centered on the two things we do best: security and standing quietly in the corner looking wise.
- ▹Monthly meetups — talks, lightning demos, and a bring-your-own-balm swap.
- ▹Global Discord — 24/7 support, #patchy-in-the-cheeks, and a very active #soup-incidents.
- ▹Conference hallway HQ — look for the flag, find your people, compare lengths respectfully.
- ▹Mentorship circles — small groups, no judgment, all growth stages welcome.
Real stories from the follicularly gifted
Behind every beard is a professional who was once told to "clean up for the client meeting." These are their words.
Dave, Threat Intel
"For years I ate soup in secret. BeardSEC showed me I wasn't alone. Now I bring a bib to standup and no one blinks."
Sam, SOC Analyst
"My mentor helped me through the awkward patchy phase. I made it out the other side. Now I mentor two rookies of my own."
Alex, Ally
"I can't grow one. But I show up, I listen, and I hold the door. Allyship isn't about the beard — it's about the being there."
Beard not required. Everyone's welcome.
Let's be absolutely clear: you do not need a beard to belong here. Clean-shaven, patchy, aspirational, or biologically beard-incapable — all are valued members of the BeardSEC family. Inclusion is our whole point, and it would be deeply ironic to gatekeep it. Come as you are.
Your seat at the table is waiting.
Membership is free, lifelong, and open to absolutely everyone. Put down the razor, or don't. Either way, you belong here.
